Shalom, Shalom!
Shalom (peace, wholeness, settledness) is a concept, and therefore
an important experience. And, it will undoubtedly become an even
more desiredly commodity as we approach the end of the millennium
with all the uncertainty that the year Y2K will bring.
Well, we want to share some exciting things that are going on in
the year Y2K-1. But to do this properly we need to fill you in on
some background information. We have been involved with the Messianic
Jewish movement since 1973, which was a time when Messianic synagogues
were just emerging. In 1975 God allowed us to establish a congregation
in the Chicago suburbs which still exists today. In fact, as a college
student, our daughter Eve attends the very same Messianic synagogue
in which she was dedicated as a baby! We were also directly involved
in beginning the first association of Messianic Jewish congregations.
Since its beginnings there has been a remarkable growth in the number
of Messianic synagogues worldwide - now numbering well over 300
- including some amazing developments in the former Soviet Union.
(We shared our experiences there with you over the summer.) With
this growth has come the pressing need for trained Messianic leaders
and for quality Messianic training to equip these leaders.
Building on earlier efforts, and working in conjunction with St.
Petersburg Theological Seminary, we have launched a full-scale training
program and school called the Netzer David International Yeshiva.
(This will be in addition to our other activities through Menorah
Ministries.) "Netzer David" is Hebrew for "branch of David", a significant
description of Yeshua the Messiah found in the Bible prophets. A
yeshiva is the Jewish equivalent of a seminary. We already have
a number of significant Messianic Jewish leaders and educators committed
to working with us. The Yeshiva will combine residential studies
with distance learning. This will enable students from all over
the world to take advantage of the training the school offers. We
have already spoken with a number of potential students from as
far away as Europe and Australia who can't wait to get started with
their studies. We are also in discussion with some friends in Israel
about the Yeshiva working together with their educational efforts
there. In addition we are laying the groundwork for extension programs
in Europe and South America.
As you can see, we've begun an exciting adventure, and venture,
through Menorah Ministries. So, we very much need your prayers and
continued financial support.
Love in our Messiah,
John & Patrice Fischer
