Shalom, Shalom!
With the first Spring of this " Millennium" just around the corner,
signs of life are emerging everywhere. And, we have seen life cropping
up at our synagogue as well.
As I looked around at the people at our Sabbath service a couple
of weeks ago, it struck me that close to 10% of those in front of
me were interested Jewish people who have not yet accepted Yeshua
as their Messiah! This was a challenging and exciting realization,
and even more so because their interest is strong enough to bring
them back repeatedly.
A couple of these people were among the couples who will be getting
married over the next several months. In fact, we'll be performing
a half dozen wedding ceremonies during this time period! On reflection,
I found that this, too, was most appropriate.
The ancient rabbis had a significant insight as they contemplated
God giving us the Torah at Mt. Sinai. They realized that the Biblical
description of that important event - the appearance of God with
its accompanying surroundings - was intended to convey a wedding
ceremony. God had entered into a marriage relationship with the
Jewish people (Isa. 54:5)! God was the groom, the clouds were the
chuppah (wedding canopy), and the Torah was the ketubah (wedding
contract).
So, appropriately and not surprisingly, the er Testament describes
the relationship between Yeshua and his messianic family in the
same way. Yeshua is the groom, his followers are the bride, and
he will return soon to take us to the "bridal chamber." In fact,
much of the Biblical language used to describe Yeshua's return utilizes
Jewish wedding imagery. [Interestingly, John will be teaching on
this over the next couple of weeks in his "Jewish Roots of the Bible"
course at the seminary and yeshiva.]
Please pray for the Jewish people we've talked about in this letter,
both those getting married and those who are not. Some of their
names are Susan, Freddie, Jerry, Bob, Remy, and David. And, while
you are praying, please pray for John. He will speak at a conference
in Atlanta and then is the main speaker at a conference in Montana
this month.
Warmly in Yeshua,
John & Patrice Fischer
